OWNER AND INSTRUCTOR
Dawn has owned a variety of breeds from six of the seven AKC
groups of dogs most of her life. She has been in the "dog business" since the
1980s, and has spent time in both the obedience and
breed ring as well as the whelping box raising puppies from 1984 -1995.
She founded Merit Puppy Training in the 1990s and in 2004 began offering basic
boarding and "board and train" services at a new location in Fauquier County.
Dawns background also includes other areas of the dog world
such as ..
- therapy work
- herding, tracking, water work training, field
training
- puppy day care
- featured writer for various Washington DC area
publications
- teaching group classes
As the owner of Merit Puppy Training, she continues to
teach group classes and also works as a private consultant focusing on training
and behavioral issues in clients homes.
Attending educational conferences throughout the year, Dawn
traveled during the winter of 1997, and spent several weeks in Europe observing
obedience classes, trainers, behavior therapy and management, assisting classes
and attending lectures. She has also worked for the City of Alexandria teaching
group training classes for one of their facilities.
Drawing from her own experience, education and unique teaching
method, Dawn has chosen to focus the program around household manners for the
pet dog owner rather than competition obedience.
With over 15 years experience in the dog world, a background
in childcare education and raising children and dogs together she has
successfully taught pet owners how to incorporate daily training, management
skills and education into the family life.
Using her own unique method called P.I.P,
Dawn has taught families how to
incorporate daily training and education right into family life with children. To learn more about P.I.P.,
